Educational Toys and Your Children

The purpose of my post is to help you understand how educational toys work towards helping your baby develop.

You are sure to be wondering what toy is the right fit, right?

Don't worry I will offer you some useful information here.

Right off the bat I suggest that you do something.

I want you to decide what developmental stage your baby is at. You may be guessing but try to be as accurate as possible.

Wondering why I would suggest this?

Well choosing the right toy for the right baby at the right age is important. Like all of us in life, if something is too easy we don't learn much. If it's tough we tend to get upset and impatient.

Your baby is no different.

Let's jump into some of the rules I would suggest you consider when buying educational toys for babies (and young children).

When you are dealing with babies who are less than three months old they are limited in one sense but on another they are sponges for information.

So educational toys with lots of stimulation from colors and sounds are good. Specifically toys that can be interacted with when a baby is on their back or side since they spend most of their time in those two positions.

One toy that I particularly like is a mirror that is safe for a baby. Both my little ones love looking at themselves in the reflection. It provided some stimulation visually that always goes a long way.

Another great toy is a baby gym of some sort. There are numerous developmental options with these gyms that your baby is sure to have fun.

Take a peek over at Fisher Price for some ideas. :)

For babies older than 3 months but younger than 6 months you will find the baby's muscles are more developed allowing them better balance and head movement.

And if you're a parent like me then you know that educational toys or not, they are going into the mouth so make sure they are safe to do so.

Think textures.

The kind of toys I am referring to can be put on strollers, for example. They are within reach of the hands and mouth. As the baby plays with these toys their motor skills improve tremendously.

Alright, moving along we are now dealing with babies who are less than a year old but older than 6 months. Movement from place to place is sure to be on the agenda.

Blocks and balls they can roll are fantastic. Babies love to move objects and stack things as well.

Remember that books should also be in the toy room. Books with lots of color, sound, and textures. These books touch on developing touch for the baby.

For babies that are older than a year you will or are experiencing them moving on their own, standing up, sitting down, rolling, playing, and exploring.

I have found that toys they can pull and push are good at this age.

If you can find a safe wagon or baby shopping cart you might have a winner.

This is also a good time to introduce music and instruments, especially since they are sure to have an entourage of sounds they are making at this age.

Oh and remember to pick up some puzzles. Puzzles are all around great for helping your baby in numerous developmental ways.

Babies bring such joy to our lives. From the moment they are born there is an instant bond and a drive to do what we can to make sure that they have the very best in life.

Searching and choosing the right toys is so very important.

As you read, every stage in a baby's growth is critical and presents new opportunities to introduce new toys to feed their imagination.

Take your time when looking for educational toys. It is well worth the effort and will pay rich dividends to your children many years down the road.
